A FEW THOUGHTS ON TODAYS READING...
We read in Luke 10:1-4, "After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go. Then He said to them, " The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves. Carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals; and greet no one along the road." There was nothing special about these laborers. They were not His apostles. What they were, was willing to go. Notice, they were to go before Him. Likewise, we who share the gospel message, go before the Holy Spirit, as we read in 1 Corinthians 3:6-7, "I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase." We read that we are sent out like lambs among wolves, in Luke 10:3 Notice in Jesus' sending there is an urgency. We, too, should feel this urgency. We read in Luke 10:4, "greet no one along the road". But this is the majority of what we do. Going from one superficial exchange of pleasantries about the weather, family, sports, politics, etc to another; we neglect the only thing that really matters, the gospel message.
Many simply choose not to share the gospel message, listing any of a number of reasons. One of the most frequent reasons is a feeling of inadequacy concerning knowledge. We read in Luke 10:21, after the seventy returned full of joy, "In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, "I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight." What were the qualifications of the seventy? They were willing babes. What power did these babes, and what power are we currently given? We read in Luke 10:16, "He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me." We, His willing vessels, are given the power of the Holy Spirit. When Samuel was distraught that he could not convince the people to desire God to be their king, rather than a man, we read in 1 Samuel 8:7, "And the Lord said to Samuel, "Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them." So, may we all make the decision to be His laborers. This does not require a PhD in theology. This job only desires a willing vessel who sees the urgency since we never know when that person before us will come before God in judgment. We who know Christ as Lord and Savior have the seeds. Let's plant them today.
THIS WEEKS MEMORY VERSE
...For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. ~1 Samuel 16:7

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
“The best way to show that a stick is crooked is not to argue about it or to spend time denouncing it, but to lay a straight stick along side it.” - D. L. Moody

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
